Breathing New Life into Bearings: How We Modified a Garlock DU Bearing

As well as manufacturing, Auburn Bearing & Mfg. has a long history of modifying other companies’ bearings.

Below is an example of a Garlock DU bearing modified to meet the customer’s print. These bearings were originally designed in the 1950s and used in governors for sea-going vessels, both military and civilian.

We took a standard diameter DU bearing and cut it in half to make 2 clam shell bearings, tin plated the back side to achieve the correct bore size and added anti-rotation tabs. All bearings were 100% inspected, and marked with serialized numbers and part number.

Modified Garlock DU Bearing

DU bearings have the high load capacity and dimensional rigidity of conventionally lubricated, metallic plain bearings, but operate successfully well beyond the scope of conventional lubricants.

We would be happy to look at your obsolete or custom bearing application. Call us at (315) 986-7600, or email sales@auburnbearing.com.
