Engineering Data

Our standard bearing rings are made from 52100 Chrome Steel and can be made from Stainless Steel per request.

Auburn bearing ratings are based upon 3500 hours life expectancy of 90% of the bearings, with an average life expectancy of 10,000 hours, when used with the following factors:

  • Safety Factor = 1.000 (Light Service – Steady Load)
  • Life Factor = 1.00 (3500 Hours)
  • Speed Factor = (Dependant upon R.P.M.)

Bearing Selection

To determine the thrust load capacity of the selected bearing using different factors than those noted above, the following formula must be used:

R x f    = Thrust Load Capacity in Pounds
F x L

Where:

  • F = Safety Factor
  • L = Life Factor
  • f = Speed Factor
  • R = Catalog Rating in Pounds @ 100 R.P.M.

To select a bearing for a specific thrust load capacity, the following formula must be used:

G x F x L    = Thrust Load Capacity, in pounds, required at 100 R.P.M. (See note)
f

Where:

  • G = Given or Assumed Load
  • F = Safety Factor
  • L = Life Factor
  • f = Speed Factor

Note: Under 100 R.P.M. column on the appropriate page select a load equal to or greater that the required load found above. The proper bearing number appears to the left.
